My YouTube recap came in early compared to Spotify that told me to update the app just to be #WRAPPEDREADY.
To be honest, I've used Spotify much more this year for streaming - the bulk of the data that was used for my YouTube recap was gotten from the music videos I viewed on YouTube.
TIME SPENT:
895 minutes spent. Approximately 15 hours.
YouTube recap is still dwarfed by Spotify Wrapped because Spotify shows more data and delivers better - Spotify would have told me that my top streaming month was in this year's first quarter.
TOP ARTISTES:
Davido: This guy has managed to top my YouTube artiste list for the last couple of years and he's not even my favorite artiste. His music videos are catchy so that contributes to my attention being drawn to his art.
Kendrick Lamar: I assume we all know why he's in my list for the year - prior to March, I barely knew his craft. I just knew who he was but I didn't listen to his music. The rap beef made me pay attention.
Phyno: If you told me last year that he would be on this list, I would have sent you to the cleaners but here we are… growing up in South-Eastern Nigeria means that it's a crime not to know him.
He absolutely owned the streets and I witnessed him peak in the 2010’s. This year, I played his hit tracks like Connect, Fada Fada, Iwa and fell in love with them again.
WizKid: His inclusion is plausible. I played Essence, Fever, Joro and others multiple times. His live session with the cavemen was my personal favourite.
Burna Boy: I didn't think he would be fifth but I guess I stream his music more on Spotify.
TOP SONGS:
Euphoria: “What is it? The braids”
Well deserved. This is my favorite song from the rap beef. I played it on my way to frustrating morning lectures, I played it on my way back, I played it at home.
I still consider it as the nail to Papi's coffin. Everything else he dropped after that were just cherries on the cake.
Not Like Us: “don’t tell no lies about me and I won't tell truths about you”
Second favorite from the rap beef.
FIA: I found Davido because of this song.
2017. I was at a hair salon when the music video came on MTV base and I fell in love with it.
I was so mad when Stefflon Don jumped in the remix. I blame all parties for that.
Love My Baby: WizKid’s Superstar album is a thing of beauty.
Amongst the multiple classics from that debut, Love My Baby tops it for me.
Lagos Vibes: Probably WizKid's best song in my opinion. Shame he never officially released it.
Rumor had it that it was a freestyle that got leaked. I still low-key expect Wiz to release it by surprise one day.
